Are you impacted by VUCA?
How’s your VUCA world?
VUCA which stands for, Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous was a bit of a buzzword for a couple of years ago, but now it seems to be the way we function in all aspects of life and work.
In some cases, VUCA may be a term used to indicate a chaotic environment, or to gauge how an organization or group can handle chaos.
I believe we can see it as term to identify challenges to our current state. Preparing to meet those challenges by using a framework such as the READY, Set, Change! approach can help our organizations and ourselves as we move to the future state.
One of the tools to combat the feeling of overwhelm VUCA can create is vision. In Built to Last, Jim Collins points out that sustainable organizations have a strong and well communicated vision. The READY, Set, Change! framework begins with the relevant and relatable story of the change, which is the vision of the future state.
The impact of the vision is sometimes underestimated, but data as well as anecdotal evidence tells us that people can support and rally around a vision of change and accomplish amazing feats when a clear relevant and relatable story of change is shared and understood.
Reducing the impact of VUCA by sharing the vision with everyone in your organization or life can calm the chaos and provide the focal point needed to move forward in our continually changing environment.
